The University of Exeter promotes, supports and sustains a vibrant research and intellectual environment, across and between disciplines, for postgraduate and early career researchers. We are committed to achieving our continuing vision in EPSRC-facing science, which is to invest in developing and linking staff across our academic Colleges, and with external partners, in order to deliver world-leading research. We enable this by bringing staff together to tackle some of the big issues of our time and through creating an environment that nurtures interdisciplinarity and greater co-production of research with the users and beneficiaries of that research, thereby maximising its transformative potential and impact.

We have invested £350 million pounds in Science and Engineering since 2008 and we are one of the fastest growing and fastest rising research intensive universities in the UK. We were ranked 16th out of 134 universities in the national Research Excellence Framework (REF) and 98% of our research is rated international quality by REF.

We are offering a minimum of 26 fully funded doctoral studentships over the academic years 2020/21 and 2021/22. Students will be given sector-leading training and development, underpinned by outstanding facilities and resources. The EPSRC DTP studentships will be offered across a wide range of EPSRC's remit at Exeter, encouraging projects at the interface of disciplines and facilitating collaborations with users where appropriate. To encourage applications across Exeter's strengths we have developed a set of research themes which students are encouraged to apply against. To achieve a multi-disciplinary approach, themes will range from being challenge areas, such as Social and Behavioural Life and Environmental Science, and Climate Dynamics and Renewable Energy, through to single disciplines, such as mathematical sciences and theoretical physics. The DTP funding will be distributed using an open and transparent process, underpinned by clear criteria. Studentships will be awarded to outstanding applicants, the distribution will be overseen by the University's EPSRC Strategy Group, in partnership with the Doctoral College.

Applications for and enquiries about EPSRC DTP studentships will be openly advertised on the University of Exeter Doctoral College website (www.
https://www.exeter.ac.uk/doctoralcollege/funding/fundedcentres/epsrcdtp/) and through general sites to ensure that the opportunities are highly visible and attract a strong and diverse candidate pool (eg, findaphd, Researchgate.net) and discipline-specific networks known by the supervisor pool.
