Description
A technical and feasibility study as a pilot to research and test the opportunities for industrial symbiosis utilising waste food streams and co-products from the food industry to produce enhanced pet nutrition.
Waste from food processing operations can amount to 30% of the food initially produced. This may go for composting, or anaerobic digestion/biogas production where volumes are geographically located to give scalability, otherwise these waste streams may go for incineration or landfill/disposal as commercial waste.
Opportunities have been identified for these waste streams to be removed from the disposal route and be further processed and value added and fully utilised as a feedstock to build sustainable supply chains and decarbonise waste streams.
This work builds on a sound base knowledge within the team of ingredient sourcing, food processing and pet nutrition where valorisation and circularity will directly replace unsustainable extended supply chains from the far East and central-Eastern Europe.
This innovation is new, it utilises waste food streams and co-products, returns reduced landfill, reduced CO2 and works towards net zero with 100% utilisation of natural resources.
