Description
Wind turbine blades travel millions of miles during their operational lives. As the first generation of wind turbine blades start to come down, being decommissioned so that more efficient turbines can be installed, ReBlade is designing circular second lives for these green energy assets.
This project will pioneer testing regimes for decommissioned wind turbine blades to assess the structural integrity of blades. The new testing protocols will help determine whether individual blades are in good enough condition to be remanufactured into items such as benches, walkways and shelters. The project will also identify safety certification requirements for remanufactured blade-derived products.
