Description
The feasibility study of a novel motion resistant deep water, heavy lift crane for use in offshore wind turbine installation and maintenance, as well as the offshore oil and gas industry. The concept allows for a specialist motion stable crane vessel with lifting capacities of over 1,000 tonnes to heights in excess of 150m in water depths of over 80m, but does not rely on the sophisticated hydraulic or pumped ballast systems, as used on current much smaller systems. It would also not have the same high cost implications of the few large semi-submersible crane vessels currently in operation.
