Queen Mary University London (QMUL) have developed a technology that has the potential to improve significantly the performance of the next generation of tandem and flexible perovskite solar cells (PSC) that are under commercial development by a number of companies across the world. The new technology will enable each solar cell to convert more of the sun's solar energy into useful electricity.

At a time when climate change is uppermost in the minds of many and the transition from fossil fuels to renewables is critical to achieving our climate goals, improving solar power collection is a key technological objective. In particular when the improvements can be applied as an "add-on" to existing solar cell manufacturing plant and processes, thereby reducing costs of adoption.

The benefits of the QMUL technology have been demonstrated at laboratory-scale, however, the next stage to wide-scale adoption of the technology is demonstration at scales relevant to current manufacturing processes. This proposal aims to develop and build a scaled-up prototype that can be used demonstrate the effectiveness of the technology in-situ and thus translate the original research into a viable commercial opportunity and generate initial revenues.

AeroSolar Ltd is a spin-out from QMUL and is focused on the commercialisation of the technology for the worldwide flexible and rigid PSC markets. However, the technology has applications in additional high value markets such as Displays which are based on similar manufacturing processes.
