Description
CO2 emissions from building operations and construction reached their highest level ever recorded in 2019 at around 38% of global emissions. The construction industry in the UK under enormous pressure to reduce GHG emissions and reach Net Zero targets by 2050\.
SustainIQ currently works with the construction sector to help contractors easily understand their operational environmental impacts through waste management, water use, energy use and transport. However operational carbon is only one part of the picture when it comes to measuring GHG impacts, they also need to understand the impacts of the subcontractors that are working on the same build and the impacts of the materials that they procure to construct the project.
SustainIQ will create a simplified solution to help the UK Construction Industry to engage with their supply chain to gather data on operational and embodied carbon impacts of each build.
This will focus on two areas:
1\. A portal for subcontractors to report on their scope 1 &2 impacts on site during the build (which represents scope 3 impacts for the main contractor)
2\. A portal which will capture the actual embodied carbon of the building by comparing the environmental ratings of products specified at design phase of the build versus the products which are commissioned and delivered to site.
The construction industry needs a solution which simplifies how they can play their part in getting to net zero, having the data to showcase a holistic picture of their impacts and track performance towards environmental targets is crucial.
