{"title": ["", "Social housing challenges in the low - carbon transformation towards N et Z ero"], "description": ["", "\nThe\naim\nof this studentship is to examine\nthe\nchanging patterns of energy use and\nlow\n-\ncarbon\ntechnology deployment in the social housing sector,\nwithin the context of the\nUK's drive to\nachieve net zero\ncarbon emissions until 2050.\nIt starts from the premise that\n'no one must be left\nbehind' in societal transformations towards a climate friendly future\n(Filho\net al.\n2019)\n.\nThe UK is\ncurrently embarking on such a transformation, largely driven by the 'net zero'\npledge\n. However,\nthe movement towards a\nl\now\n-\ncarbon\nfuture require\ns\ndeep\nsocial, economic and political\nchanges\nin energy technologies and consumption patterns, with\nfar\n-\nreaching\nimplications on how\nnations,\ncities and homes are planned\nand\nlived in\n(Bridge\net al.\n2013)\n.\nAs such 'net zero' is a\nfundamentally geographical concern\n, touching upon fundamental relations of place, space and territory\n(Bouzarovski\net al.\n2017)\n.\nMoreover, i\nt is now well established that c\nlimate policies\ncan\nboth\ntransform existing inequalities\nand\ncreate new ones as they unfold.\nE\nnergy transitions may\nadversely affect the social, economic and political\nvulnerability of actors involved in\n,\nand affected\nby\n,\nthe process; from individual households to entire states\n(Sovacool\net al.\n2019)\n.\nChallenges at the energy\n-\nequity interface in the context of net zero are particularly pronounced in\nthe social housing sector, owing to\nthe h\nigher proportion of socio\n-\neconomic vulnerabilities\n-\nparticularly lower incomes and employment precarity\n-\nfaced by people living in this part of the\nhousing stock\n(Waitt and Harada 2019)\n.\nWhile\nthe\nu\npgrading\nof\nsocial housing properties wit\nh\nlow\n-\ncarbon technologies is associated with multiple challenges,\nthere is limited knowledge on\nhow to improve the energy performance of such properties while ensuring the full participation,\ntrust and engagement of affected residents\n\n"], "extra_text": ["", "\n\n\n\n"], "status": ["", "Active"]}
