Neuto is a bespoke tool for measuring website carbon emissions. Our ambition is to provide everyone with the tools they need to understand the carbon impact of their website.
Neuto uses over 65 relevant specific data points to provide a highly accurate picture of each unique website's carbon emissions. We calculate emissions based on the precise business and user data for each business' website: we include data on where each of their users is, what devices they are using and how much renewable electricity is available to them at their location. This allows our clients to know exactly what their website's carbon footprint is, enabling them to accurately construct and meet internal carbon targets, with the opportunity of advertising to their clients the carbon emissions reduction that they are making.
We wish to build on the success of Neuto by developing design documentation to help users improve website emissions. Data collected from Neuto during Beta testing has been collated and analysed and we will use this data to inform the creation of detailed documentation.
This project will deliver comprehensive documentation covering all aspects of low carbon website design and the infrastructure needed to support it. This innovative documentation will allow us to facilitate universal access to our discoveries on the topic of low carbon website development. Open access to the documentation will benefit all internet users and will help lower carbon emissions nationally and internationally. Our documentation will be cross-platform, enabling designers and developers to implement low-carbon websites across multiple programming languages.
Our tool alerts clients of the carbon impact their website has, by combining this with low-carbon design documentation, we can help customers achieve a lower-carbon website. Our monitoring tool can be used throughout development to track progress in carbon reductions resulting from design optimisations. Expanding to encompass carbon solutions, as well as monitoring, will benefit our clients by helping them to set and achieve their carbon emissions targets.
Ultimately the more clients we can assist with monitoring their website emissions and working to improve them, the more we can reduce overall carbon emissions in the UK.
