Description
In a world transforming into more electrical for the purpose of transition to a low carbon economy across every sector of our society, Power Electronics is needed more than ever before. In all sectors of industry whether it is an electric or hybrid vehicle, a marine vessel, a more electric aircraft or a smart grid with renewable energy generation, the need for power electronics is significantly growing to successfully meet environmental and climate change targets. There is currently a massive need for next-generation power electronic engineers to support the fast-growing demand and developments in green modern energy networks and low carbon solutions for transport including marine, automotive and aerospace.
This 5-day industry-compatible training course is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students from any engineering discipline wanting to gain more knowledge and develop expertise in the area of power electronics. We aim to give a good overview of the field, with training opportunities for corresponding skills and competencies needed by industry. The course includes a rich mix of focused lectures on Power Electronics and their applications, delivered by QMUL academics, in addition to industrially oriented seminars and case studies, delivered by industrial experts from leading UK companies. Participants will be able to learn and engage in rich discussions with QMUL academics and industrial lectures through small group workshops. A competition between participants will be held on the last day of the workshop and prizes will be awarded to best candidates, with the opportunity for the 3 top trainees to get industrial placement by the sponsored companies.
Career driven sessions are given by relevant power electronics consultancy companies and the Careers and Enterprise team at QMUL to appreciate the growing demand and available career opportunities in addition to industrial placements and internships in this fast expanding area among UK industry. The training course has a strong industry focus and it will enhance participants hands-on skills in power electronics design and manufacturing by demonstrating modern tools for modelling, simulation, testing and experimental validation of power electronic circuits and their real-time control systems implementation, of the type used in many industries.
