Description
Polyimide is a fundamental engineering plastic and commonly the material of choice for applications operating at high temperature, corrosion & abrasion resistant and ultra-low toxicity, in markets such as electronics, biomedical, photonics, aerospace, fuel cells, print & displays. Industry trends dictate smaller, lighter, flexible, energy efficient and cost effective products. To make this happen polyimide materials need to be produced in new ways, to overcome the current engineering process limitations. We have researched a new process for depositing precisely tuned polyimide coatings. Film coatings are controllable on fin, non-uniform surfaces, using a process known as Pol-coat. The new process allows finer precision patterning of polyimide and linearly controlled material thickness from the sub-micron scale up to the tens of microns. The process fills a niche, where other polyimide processes, like spin coating, vapour deposition and lamination don't go. Pol-coat opens up new frontiers by allowing for the first time Electro-forming of polyimides to form three dimensional micro structures. Pol-coat is an enabler for a new generation of key components that will benefit humanity.
