Derby’s approach to the Future Cities Demonstrator is to create an holistic, sustainable future city system, through the use of developing technologies to support city life which will help drive Derby to a transformational future. This study will look at the feasibility of, and the benefits which can be obtained from integrating different systems operated by the city council and its partners. This study will look at linking together the traffic control and information systems in Derby, operated by the City and County Councils, public transport operators and Highways Agency; the potential for using smart energy management techniques and systems to reduce fuel costs; and the potential for community health and care service providers to be able to communicate and work more effectively with service users. This will include looking at the potential role that smartphone apps could have in improving communications between residents and public services.
