Description
The proposed project aims to develop new quantum technologies to realize new energy storage mechanism and new laser sources in the gamma ray range. To this purpose, we will explore collective effects in ultra-cold samples of nuclear isomers. These are caesium atoms with their nuclei in an excited state. The research will involve demonstrating, for the very first time, a Bose-Einstein condensate of nuclear isomers. We will then investigate collective effects, and in particular the possibility of producing coherent gamma emission via collective de-excitation.
