Description
This TSB-funded project will catalyse the uptake of 3-Cs unique superconducting technology in the marketplace through simple small-scale, but high-impact, magnetic levitation, energy storage and motor demonstrations to unlock the potential of 3-Cs patented multilayer nanotextured structures.
The electric current carried by these nanotextured structures is already many orders of magnitude higher than can be carried by an equivalent cross-section of copper wire. This results in very high magnetic fields being generated in a confined space, which in turn will lead to the miniaturisation of next-generation electrical machines. The target market sectors for these compact lightweight machines include transport (especially rail, marine and aerospace), and ultimately the energy generation and power distribution sectors too. For example, wind generators can be much smaller.
