{"title": ["", "MASBAH (Making affordable solar, battolyser and hydrogen)"], "description": ["", "\nOur vision is to develop a process to manufacture a flow battolyser (battery and electrolyser combined) that can be made by low skill personnel, anywhere using low cost materials. In particular, we are keen to ensure access to a sustainable form of energy storage to everyone.\n\nAlthough batteries are available to buy, these are typically used for appliances that use low power. The batteries are expensive or not durable or are environmentally unsustainable and also need to be used where there is an existing supply of electricity. Our aim is to develop a flow battolyser that can provide electricity and hydrogen with a rating that is suitable for larger power appliances such as those used in cooking or air cooling processes or at village mini-grid scale.\n\nThe project therefore meets the 3 elements of the energy trilemma by providing a low cost process using readily available components, with no direct emissions to give security of supply and access to energy to everyone.\n\nThe key objectives are;\n\n\\*To develop the process for manufacturing a flow battolyser that can be made using easily accessible components and chemicals that has sufficient stored electricity to power typical household electrical appliances for up to 24 hours.\n\n\\*To ensure the process reads like a recipe, so that it is easy to follow by a low skill worker e.g. high school graduate or home carer.\n\n\\*To ensure there is very low safety risk\n\n\\*To develop the use of by-product hydrogen for cooking.\n\n\\*To identify the recycling process for the battolyser.\n\nThe main areas of focus will be on;\n\n\\*Manufacturing a flow battolyser and testing its process of manufacture within the local sub-Sahara African community.\n\n\\*Determining the by-products of the process and identifying the uses for these.\n\n\\*Quantifying the battolyser parameters and detailing how the energy can be used along with sub system component development e.g. how to use this battolyser in a village-scale mini-grid.\n\nThe project is innovative because it addresses energy storage and use in sub-Sahara Africa through a novel flow battolyser system that is low cost, designed to be manufactured locally and focussed on sustainability.\n\n"], "extra_text": ["", "\n\n\n\n"], "status": ["", "Active"]}
