Description
There is worldwide concern over environmental sustainability and continued pollution arising from the use of fossil fuels for energy production. The proposed research will discover new carbon-based porous materials that have optimised applications in energy storage or environmental remediation. The aim is to use carbon-containing waste matter as precursors for the optimised porous carbons thus achieving valorisation. Porous carbons will be prepared via modified activation routes that seek to make the synthesis routes simpler, cheaper and sustainable while at the same time targeting improved properties for use a gas (hydrogen, methane and CO2) stores or as electrode materials for supercapacitors.
