This project explores the commercial feasibility of incorporating the latest distributed energy infrastructure in new housing developments across the UK. It will explore three scenarios:
A. An all electric development
B. A development based around a district heating scheme with combined heat and power (CHP)
C. A development where every house has choice between connecting to the new local smart infrastructure or using the traditional gas and electricity grids.
These scenarios wil be developed using the latest technologies for network management, storage and demand response, and tested against the technical requirements and constraints of the existing distribution network as well as the commercial requirements of housing developers and the political and planning constraints of a local authority. The project will use a real planned development of 3000 new homes in Warwickshire as a case study and potential pilot.
