A solar water heating system for small (1-2 people) households based on proprietary technology which allows hot water cylinders to be miniaturised wwhile eliminating the mixing of hot and cold water inside. The system works with a solar collector which can be mounted on walls, eliminating the need for roof access. The cylinder holds 80 litres of water, enough for two showers or to make up one bath.We have achieved proof of concept but need help with further modelling and design considerations.Small households at present are virtually excluded from participating in renewables on account of cost and lack of space. In addition, commercially available systems are sized for at least 3-4 peaple, and perform poorly under low hot water demand. Our system, called SolarMia, addresses all these issues and we are aiming to bring it to market for £1500,- including installation.
