April 11, 2022, 1:46 a.m. Updated 35 {"title": ["", "Zero Emission Rail Freight Power"], "description": ["", "\nThe Railway Association of Canada has entered a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Transport Canada and Environment Canada in an effort to manage the rail industry's locomotive emissions. The Locomotive Emissions Monitoring (LEM) Program was created to ensure that railways were living up to their commitment to meet GHG intensity reduction targets. The LEM Program supports the Government of Canada's objective to reduce our country's total GHG emissions by 30 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030\\.\n\nThis 3-month project will enable Steamology to conduct a feasibility study to demonstrate how zero emission 'drop-in' diesel engine replacement solutions currently being developed for the UK rail freight re-tractioning is appropriate for the Canadian rail freight industry.\n\nSteamology are developing an innovative hydrogen 'drop-in' diesel engine replacement product that deliver zero emission solutions when powered by Renewable Energy (RE).\n\nThe specific theme of this SBRI Global Rail Export Innovation for Australia, Canada and India competition that Steamology is responding to is Innovation opportunities in Canada exploring Alternative propulsion technologies.\n\nSteamology have distinct advantages over fuel cell and battery technology for high-power applications required for rail freight locomotives, increased energy density, more cost effective with longer life offering considerable Life Cycle Cost savings.\n\nSteamology, founded to commercially exploit the technology legacy of a successful landspeed world record attempt, to explore the potential of clean green renewable hydrogen steam.\n\nSteamology deliver scalable and modular solutions for industrial steam heat and power, embracing the hydrogen economy, eliminating emissions, replacing fossil fuels and fossil fuel engines.\n\nSteamology has a proven record in delivering complex functioning systems. At the heart of the Steamology system is a compact energy dense steam generator. Steam is generated using energy stored as compressed hydrogen and oxygen gas in tanks. High pressure superheated steam is used to drive a turbine providing an innovative power train for Freight locomotive rolling stock.\n\nThe zero-emission steam turbine can be manufactured as a diesel engine replacement for existing freight locomotives. The turbines are low noise assisting urban freight operations. RE is used to power electrolysis to generate the hydrogen and oxygen gas and to compress the gas into storage tanks. The closed cycle is emission free producing no carbon or NOX emissions in a repeatable cycle without charging losses. Steamology adopt a 'Cradle to Cradle' approach to design. This means avoiding rare earth or toxic materials delivering products with simplified service maintenance and long service life.\n\n"], "extra_text": ["", "\n\n\n\n"], "status": ["", "Active"]}
