Description
The transmission of bulk power has been facilitated by high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) links. Among the different types of HVDC technology, voltage source converter (VSC) based configurations, particularly modular multilevel converter (MMC) implementations, are highly attractive due to the possibility to interconnect additional terminals to form multi-terminal HVDC systems-offering a greater controllability and system reliability. However, this flexibility comes at the expense of additional challenging requirements in terms of protection and control. This 3.5 year research project will examine these challenges and will provide novel solutions towards facilitating deployment of multiterminal HVDC systems.
