FoodTrade is an open data B2B platform, acting as a social networking site for food enterprises that gives smaller businesses the same data-driven efficiency enjoyed by big operators. The system allows companies to create and join communities and share dynamic supply chains that increase sales and cut costs while encouraging local procurement. Our solution is built on top of an open data platform designed as a free social, local and mobile communication space which encourages small businesses to link their trade interests within a cooperative network. The primary social benefits are: better quality local sourced food to customers; more efficient local supply chains with a far lower carbon footprint; and increased economic opportunities for local food producers and retailers.
