Spacelink is a proposal for making composite, long span roofs and lightweight bridges that are low cost, low carbon and maintenance free. The study will investigate new ways of using Pultruded Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (PGFRP) to make space-frame structures for different purposes. By engineering a novel space-frame concept that uses low-cost techniques to increase stiffness and span, it may be possible to build roofs of up to 50m span that are half the weight of steel equivalents, corrosion resistant and less costly. A PGFRP space-frame may also be used to construct bridges of up to 10m span that support vehicles yet are man-portable. A demountable node will be developed to enable Flat-pack delivery and Quick Assembly (QA). Disassembly will allow re-use and recycling
