Description
Developing new technologies to produce commodity chemicals (which are currently derived from petroleum) from renewable resources, is a substantial industry focus. Synthesis of these important commodity chemicals from syngas derived from waste or plant biomass has great potential if the key biochemical energy limitations of this approach can be addressed to broaden the product range. This study will determine the feasibility of a key step in a novel pathway which could address this issue and allow process development for the synthesis of a multi billion Euro commodity chemical from a highly flexible, gaseous resource which can be obtained from industrial and domestic waste.
