Description
The project aims to develop the design and manufacturing processes for portable structures
which can meet the requirements for energy efficiiency of new international energy
conservation standards. Tectoniks Limited are already established as leaders in the field of
high performance inflatable buildings and have pioneered the use of flexible insulation
materials in such structures.
However, the demand for increasing energy efficiency means that new, higher performance
materials need to be incorporated into the design and manufacture of portable structures
together with improved designs for the integration of doors, windows etc.
Tectoniks have sourced several candidate materials and components which can provide the
necessasry performance but there are significant challenges to overcome to incorporate them
into their portable structures. The project will develop the required design and manufacturing
processes and will assess the performance of finished structures.
The development of portable structures which meet international requirements for energy
efficiency will provide a significant competitive advantage for Tectoniks in existing markets
and has the potential to open up new markets for portable structures where the requirements
for energy efficiency have previously precluded their use.
