Project Summary: Traditionally, the radiographic images created by exposure of film are considered by trained experts searching for a possible defect in the provided projection of the industrial part. Concerning a total simulation of the inspection procedure, the expert's more or less subjective decision criterion on the presence of a defect has also to be modelled to provide meaningful simulation results. The aim of this work is to further develop existing visibility criteria and, if necessary, to search for a new criterion to improve the simulation of radiographic inspection procedures in industrial applications, especially in the field of the nuclear power industry.
