To accelerate the delivery to the UK market of far-infrared electric radiant panel heaters in order to provide business benefits to the Built Environment Industry including cost of installation and maintenance and cost to run as well as aesthetic and controllability factors.Far-infrared (FIR) heaters are already widespread within the EU domestic market.With reference to the work of Dr. -Ing. Peter Kosack in his 2008 research project, “Case Study of the Differences between Infrared Heating and Gas Heating in Old Residential Buildings, Using Comparative Measurements” (http://www-user.rhrk.uni-kl.de/~kosack/forschung/?INFRAROT-STRAHLUNGSHEIZUNG) the energy demand of FIR electric radiant panel heaters was found to be more than 2.5 times less than that of a gas-fired central heating system over a single cold season, with all other factors being equal.The manufacturer has further refined the technology since the study took place. Further reductions in energy consumption are reported.Our suggested benchmark technology is existing high efficiency gas-fired central heating plant. A suitable test would be a residential block over a period of at least one year.Emphasis is placed on the maintenance-free aspect of this technology together with it’s high local controllability. Without mechanical or moving parts (switches excepted) there is less demand on maintenance staff to service or repair faulty plant and the end-user may take complete responsibility for their own energy use.
