Mobile Power has designed and tested an energy distribution ecosystem that supplies affordable electricity to African off-grid households using a smart battery pay-as-you-go rental system. Mobile piloted its technology in real life operating conditions at scale and now needs to move to full commercialisation. The core innovation of Mobile Power is in the cost-effective distribution of electricity off-grid. Smart Batteries "MOPO Batteries" are charged at centralised solar Hubs, "MOPO Hubs", and rented directly from the Hub or through Distribution Agents, who are paid on commission, travelling up to 10km from the hub delivering MOPO Batteries. Agents can rent the Smart Batteries to customers using an Android App, even in areas without network connectivity. The MOPO Hub provides a powerful platform for other commercial businesses, community services and development projects. For customers the solution requires no deposit, no financial debt, and provides a whole household’s energy needs.
