Large organisations cannot effectively coordinate multi-site energy complementarities afforded by new sustainable energy services. Virtual private wire networks (VPWN) meets this challenge by enabling efficient collective utilisation of distributed flexible loads, storage and generation. This adventurous project involves novel research and a feasibility study demonstrating the value of a multi-site, multi-actor VPWN that reduces customer energy costs, reduces carbon emissions and increases energy security to provide required services. Distributed, multi-objective stochastic control algorithms will be developed that explicitly account for coupled sources of uncertainty, user behaviour and preferences. A shadow model of the VPWN and cloud-based market platform will be developed, targeting the Siemens MindSphere IoT OS. This project will validate enhanced end-user value, prove a novel business model, and provide implications for the regulatory regime.
