SaFE, or Sustainability and Food from Energy, will use year round waste heat from an adjacent CHP/ pelleting plant development to enhance the production of vegetables in polytunnels. Markets of interest include local vegetable sales, reducing food miles, and export potential from products processed from SaFE plants.Project development work includes formulation of the growing programme that will consider high value products filling Scottish supply chain gaps, refining of calculations for the heat and light requirements for the polytunnels, designing of polytunnel layout and heat transfer arrangements, and final plant selection related to the heat availability programme and light restrictions.
