All businesses want lower energy costs, but switching to renewables has not been viable without subsidies. Silicon photovoltaic (PV) solutions are more expensive compared to carbon based energy because of the high cost of manufacturing panels. Globally, more than 1.3 billion people still do not have access to electricity and largely rely on costly or polluting diesel-powered generators. To solve this, Big Solar Ltd is developing Power Roll (PR), a new type of ultra-low cost, lightweight, flexible and durable solar PV, indepedently proven at lab scale, that is different to Silicon and thin film PV. This feasibility study will apply existing SEAC manufacturing technology to a new field. By developing improved structural architectures, novel PVD machine capabilities and quantum dot based inks, enhanced electrode material deposition techniques and coating techniques, this project will pave the way for future growth in PV technology, with massive growth potential for related SEAC manufacturing applications.
