There is strong governmental support for distributed, green electricity generation through
Renewable Obligation Certificates, Renewable Heat Incentives and other incentives. Biomass
CHP Ltd (BCHP) has, over a period of 4 years, developed novel technology for advanced
gasification of wood chip from renewable forestry, with a novel gas cleaning system that
produces no liquid effluent and provides clean gas to a lean burn, efficient, turbo charged,
engine and generator. Waste heat from the process is collected and can be provided as hot
water for heating and drying operations. BCHP intends to sell standard 300kWe plants to
customers such as small factories, saw mills, amenity centres, housing developments,
hospitals and schools. BCHP also intends to operate plants selling heat and power to similar
customers. The technology has been developed with the support of the Carbon Trust. The
capital cost of one of our plants is attractive at the scale envisaged, unlike competitive
offerings which lead competitors to offer substantially larger plants.
The final stage in the development of the process, before sales can begin, is to build and
operate a prototype plant designed to incorporate all the learning of the last 4 years and to
finally test each element of the design at full scale and to determine the final design of the
commercial offering. This proposal covers the cost of erecting a prototype plant,
commissioning it, testing its efficiency against design expectations and developing the final
commercial design.
