The project is collaborative and business led and relates to a feasibility study of Gaia-Grid: a novel hybrid energy storage and management solution to address weak grid, off-grid and prohibitively costly grid connections. Gaia-Grid uses a 3-phase power inverter which can accept inputs from multiple sources of on-site generation and storage units. Gaia-Grid provides an innovative integration and enhancement of existing technologies, enabling it to be rapidly brought to market. The smart system design enables flexibility around scale of on-site generation (renewable & non-renewable) to better meet demand; using load management & prediction techniques, the user interface of the SMART control learns the patterns of the user’s load profile to suggest improvement actions. The feasibility study will further develop the prediction techniques, complete market studies & better define user requirements, ultimately concluding on areas of focus for the next phase. The full Project will involve an extensive R& Project undertaking field trials/ pilot testing of the Gaia-Grid system, perform validating research and refine field experience.
