Bind-a-tex has established itself as a provider of material cutting services to the composites
sector in the UK and Europe, supplying major companies in the aerospace and alternative
energy markets. Bind-a-tex processes a wide range of materials, including pre-pregs and
carbon laminates into various dimensions and forms which include continuous narrow tapes.
With the increasing importance of tape laying technology in the production of composites,
performance specifications and tolerances demanded by customers are constantly testing the
boundaries of current cutting technologies. Bindatex has embarked on a programme of
investment in new technology to provide the composites sector with material cutting solutions
which meet these needs.
The POM project’s objectives are as follows:-
• To quantify the market potential for precision cut narrow width composite
reinforcement materials in the aerospace and related sectors, within the EU and globally
• To establish current and future specification requirements of narrow materials to meet
the needs of manufacturers and end users of advanced composites structures produced using
tape laying technologies
• To identify the current state of the art in terms of tolerance, reliability, product
fexibility and assess the demand for tighter width tolerances than currently available.
• To engage stakeholders and partners who can contribute to successful development
and implementation of this advanced material processing capability
• To quantify the overall market impact of introducing this new capability to the UK
composites and advanced material supply chain, thereby reducing reliance on non-EU
services, providing export opportunities and generating IP and employment opportunities in
the UK
