The project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of applying Big Data and Internet of Things technologies to

unique challenges faced by mining companies managing large pipelines over long distance that are transporting

sea water and slurry. These pipelines require multi stage pumping stations that consume enormous energy and

are placed in difficult to access terrain. The technology demonstrated as a part of the project will introduce a

new way to automate running these pumping stations with minimum human intervention and has the potential

to significantly reduce the energy and water impact of mining, increasing sustainability and reducing resource

competition with local communities. The project will result in a prototype deployment at one of the pumping

stations in the Anglo American Sur Chile Limitada, Los Bronces mine.
