Description
An energy storage and recovery system of typically 5MWh storage capacity for offshore wind turbines of rated power 5MW and above, based on compressed air. As a consequence of using high efficiency compressors and expansion turbines, and by storing and recovering the waste energy of the compression cycle, an extremely high cycle efficiency is achieved. The system is configured so that all the wind turbine energy output is stored for recovery when grid demand is at a peak and there is no direct connection of the wind turbine generator to the grid.
