The objective of this project is to assess the products, markets and competitors in relation to
medium-scale wind turbines. These are turbines with electricity production capacity between
100KW and 500KW.
Our belief, which needs to be tested by this product-market analysis, is that this may be a
market opportunity which is not sufficiently addressed, and will require innovation in product,
processes and services to do so. This belief is based on the view that major providers of wind
turbines seem to have focused on much larger scale facilities. Also, we do not believe that
there is currently a supplier of such turbines in the UK.
Our long-term aim is to produce a medium-scale wind turbine, support services and go-tomarket
business processes that satisfy three key requirements:
1. fulfils the requirements of local communities for minimal impact on their locality
2. attracts the government's Feed in Tariff for renewable energy production and export, and
3. shares the financial benefits of the facility with the local community.
We believe that this will be valuable innovation in relation to both the wind turbine itself and
the sharing of benefits with the local community. Obviously in addition to the economic
benefits of renewable energy production at a local level, this project will also directly alleviate
the use of fossil fuel and help to address the consequences of climate change. It will also have
social benefits. Firstly, the sharing of the financial benefits will enable the local community to
develop local amenities at their own discretion, and secondly, such an appoach facilitates the
local community to engage in direct action against climate change.
We believe this is an exciting and innovative project that not only directly addresses climate
change and provides direct economic, environmental and social benefits, but it also resonates
strongly with local and national political imperatives for renewable energy and jobs in the
UK.
