Description
The fashion industry, accountable for 10% of global emissions and more than aviation and shipping combined, needs to scale new business models that decouple revenue from selling more new products. A WRI report states that these new business models are needed to tackle 40% of the emissions that will still remain after advances in renewable energy efficiency, innovative material usage and scaling sustainable practices.
Our project will take end-of-life clothing and use CLO to create new products that can be commercially scaled. CLO is a 3D fashion design software program that creates virtual, true-to life garment visualization with cutting-edge simulation technologies. CLO enables us to bypass the time-consuming hands-on prototyping stage and focus on using smart design to create patterns that harvest the most amount of usable textiles.
Upcycled products naturally vary more in colour and textile finish compared to new products so CLO will enable our brand partners to quickly preview these designs in a true-to life environment and have clear insight as to the products they are approving. Importantly, the patterns will be designed as such to enable the final products to be produced over and over again with different colours and fabrics and in different manufacturing locations.
